More About FrontPath Health Coalition
History
FrontPath Health Coalition combines private and public sector employers and union trust funds into a coalition that speaks with a common voice to address the cost and quality of health care in our community.
The coalition was first established in 1988, when eight major Toledo based companies established a not-for-profit purchasing group to provide an alternative to traditional health benefit offerings. In 1994, another coalition of labor-management and public sector groups merged with the employer coalition to form FrontPath.
FrontPath was the first in the Midwest to undertake this approach for self-funded group health plans. Today, FrontPath’s pioneering efforts are being duplicated throughout the country, as group health plan sponsors struggle with lack of access to their own data, rising health care costs, and expanding medical technology and services.
We make group health plans more affordable through our provider contracts utilizing the aggregated purchasing power of our members, resulting in lower and more stable long-term costs.
(Not-for-Profit) Business Coalition on Health
FrontPath is a not-for-profit member managed organization that is governed by a volunteer board of trustees. As such, we are solely guided by the interests of our members in the communities we serve. As we are not an insurer, our goal is not to profit from offering access to health care services. FrontPath maintains a zero profit-based structure, meaning there is 0% profit in all Coalition pricing.
FrontPath has played an important role in representing the interests of the business community in the healthcare arena. In addition to developing a locally based PPO network, FrontPath has invested in pooling regional healthcare data, promoting public reporting of quality and cost information, and will be supporting future value-based purchasing initiatives.
FrontPath Health Coalition recognizes and embraces our role as a catalyst for local healthcare market reform. We support a focus on transparency and accountability within the healthcare delivery system.
